new model - AGILE PENDULUM
posted by Kurt ....
"Looking for input on colors for the first run of the fan frets - Basic Specs are
* 7 String 25.5-27" Scale
* 3pc maple neck with rosewood fingerboard
* Bolt neck joint
* 1 x Cephius (Agile) pickup
* 1 Volume
* Custom Bridge (Much like the Z bass)
* Grover tuner
* Chrome hardware
* Mahogany Body
Model Name "Pendulum"
Target Price $600 to $699
Should be available around the end of April - with some pre-production models before that.
This is just the first go - I expect higher end versions set neck or neck through, upgraded pickups etc (and prices closer to $999) and 8 string
versions to come later in the year.
This is with an Agathis Body.
Production will use Mahogany body, but the agathis is pleasantly light. (about 6 lbs !)
Also plan on angling the pickup a bit.
- Kurt "

kurts gone mad!
(in a good way)
$1000 for a production model eh? i guess there isnt exactly anything to compete with so he must think the market will take an agile at that price.

Having never played a fanned fret guitar, I have no idea what to expect. The idea intrigues me but not at that price.

yup, nobody makes a production fanned fret model. so even at a $1000 for a neck-thru or set neck w/EMG's ect... that is a great price.
most people will be happy with the standard model at $600-$699 though. i know i will

Cool. I'd rather have fanned frets for an eight string, though; sevens still work pretty well with standard fretting. That will look so much better
with angled pickups.

Not really my cuppa tea. A little too plain jane IMO... but I really dig that kurt is taking the chance to recognize that no one is making guitars
like this as a production model and getting a foothold in the market.
Very cool.

man that thing does look crazy! I'm glad that Kurt is making some unique guitars, but I have to ask why not a Danelectro copy or something unique for
us 6 stringers?

I dig the bodystyle. It is very Jackson/Charvelesque. Dunno anything about "fanned" frets. What are the advantages/disadvantages of them? Also
wouldn't that bridge lend itself to some possible intonation problems or is the extreme angle a non-issue?

from wikipedia:
The potential advantage is that one can obtain the power, especially in the bass, of a long scale, along with the sweetness and lack of twang of the
shorter scale. For example, comparing the Martin D-28 with the Gibson J-45, the Martin has more power, the Gibson is sweeter.
so basically, you'll get the ballsy sound of the 7th string, but not have to have such a long scale on the top string so that it's unplayable...i'm
very excited about these guitars, i might have to consider ordering the 8 string version

Nevermind. I just realized intonation would not be an issue with that bridge considering the way the frets are.

It's only the high-end model he said would be around $999, otherwise it was $600-699
I really have no interest in this model though, I just can't see what use I'd have for it.

Would hope for a more creative body style with a name like that. Dig the fanned fret plan, wish it was a 6 string.
